Whiplash

Chiropractic Treatments for Whiplash Injuries

Whiplash is a type of injury to neck muscles that develop as a result of rapid forward or backward movement of the neck. This usually occurs during car accidents though it can also arise during contact sports and amusement park rides. Whiplash symptoms include neck movement reduction, neck pain, and stiffness.

Chiropractic treatments for whiplash relieve pain, restore normal movement of the neck and aid faster recovery of the injured tissues. These therapies include spinal manipulation which involves slow mobilizing movements of the affected part. Ultrasound therapy is also used to relieve inflammation. Other non-surgical treatment options offered by chiropractors to treat injured muscles include muscle relaxation and stimulation.

Various exercises are also used to reduce the disc problems caused by whiplash. Lifestyle changes that can aid recovery from whiplash include wearing a neck support combined with applying an ice pack to the neck for a couple of days after the injury to reduce pain and swelling. These home treatments should be combined with doing the exercises prescribed by the chiropractor.
